a must see movie, the backup plan
Zoe (Lopez) has given up on finding the man of her dreams and decided to become a single mother, this being the eponymous backup plan. She undergoes artificial insemination. The same day she meets Stan (O’Loughlin) when they step into a taxi, both claiming to be first. They argue before she gets out because he’s ruining her good mood and he gets out when she says that. Thus both lose the cab. Stan follows Zoe and picks up the penny she turned over for good luck. She joins a mutual aid group of single pregnant women. Later Zoe is at the Farmer’s Market and runs into Stan and learns that he makes cheese. Stan is surprised to see her and they introduce themselves. When his classmate gives the impression that they are going out, Zoe walks away. They meet again in Zoe’s store during a lecture about dogs, and are eventually asked to take their increasingly heated conversation outside. Stan convinces Zoe to go on a no-obligations date. Zoe is still uncertain whether she is pregnant or not and if she should tell Stan. The night she takes the test, Stan takes her for a romantic dinner in a garden. Things didn’t turn out as well as planned when he spills the wine and a fire occurs. At the end of the night Stan asks her to come to his farm during the weekend and Zoe finds out that she is pregnant

Couples Retreat (2009)

Couples Retreat is one of those comedy movies that had mixed reviews because of it’s “hit or miss” nature. Sometimes it’s really funny, while other times it seems to try too hard. It’s the story of 8 friends who get a discount rate on a vacation at a resort…the only catch is that it involves mandatory unconventional therapy along the way.

There are lots of jokes about male egos and stereotypes that usually fall flat, but it still makes for an ok “couple movie”, if you want to watch your boyfriend squirm while watching a semi-romantic chick flick.

The Time Traveler’s Wife (2009)

I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry about this movie. It’s one of those romantic movies based around an extreme conflict that the couple somehow overcome to still stay together. The problem that threatens to tear their love apart in this case is quite unusual.

It seems Henry suffers from some kind of rare genetic disorder that causes him to hurdle through time uncontrollably at any given moment. No, seriously…the guy lives on some kind of constantly shifting timeline and the couple never knows how long they will be seperated when he is gone or how much time they will have together when he’s back….and you thought YOU had problems with your man!! lol

The Time Traveler’s Wife stars Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) as Clare and Eric Bana as Henry. Continue on to watch this chick flick now!

Brittany Murphy Tribute (2009)

Brittany Murphy was a very talented actress who suddenly passed away today at the young age of only 32 of cardiac arrest. There’s no official word yet on what caused her death, but I thought it would be fitting to post a chick flick starring her in it, and I chose her recent TV movie, the Nora Roberts’ Tribute romance.

It’s the story of Cilla McGowan (Murphy) who was a former child star and now loves to restore old houses. She begins working on her grandmother’s home, to save it from falling apart, but is haunted by dreams of her and how she died many years ago.

As this tale unfolds, she becomes romantically involved with her hunky neighbor, Ford Sawyer (cool name!) and the passion begins…

Legally Blonde

Reese Witherspoon is fantastic in Legally Blonde as a law student looking to upstage the jerk who dumped her. She really shows him who is the better person, and learns a lot about herself in the process. This is a great chick flick comedy when you just want to throw your pillow at the screen and boo and hiss at all the stupid jerks out there. Continue on to watch this chick flick now!

Sweet November

I love this movie! Sweet November stars Charlize Theron as a quirky woman with a sad secret who meets a stuffy ad exec (played by Keanu Reeves) and she shows him how to loosen up and enjoy life. I don’t want to give away the ending, but let’s just say you’ll need LOTS of Kleenex handy!

Sweet November is one of those chick flicks to watch when you need a good cry, just to get it out of your system. Pass the tissue box!! Continue on to watch this chick flick now!

Ahhh, to be the Princess Bride! This movie came out way back in 1987, but it’s still a fun movie and a classic chick flick. It also has enough rough looking guys in it doing battle that you may be able to invite your boyfriend over to watch it with you. Good luck with that!

I’m STILL waiting for my Prince to come along on his horse and sweep me off my feet…*sigh* Continue on to watch this chick flick now!
